Wels is located near Linz, the capital of the state of Upper Austria, and approx. 120 km from Salzburg and 200 km from Vienna.
Travel by Train
The journey with the Austrian National Railway is possible from all directions. Please see the ÖBB train timetable. From the railway station in Wels it is best to take a cab (approx. 3 minutes) or to walk (approx. 10 minutes) to the University Campus.
Wels has direct train connections with Vienna, Salzburg and Linz. The main train station "Wels Hauptbahnhof" is located at only 10 minutes walking distance from the campus.
Air Travel
The closest airports are Linz, Salzburg, Vienna and Munich (Germany).
From Linz airport - Blue Danube Airport (LNZ):
Linz airport is situated between Wels and Linz. There is a free shuttle bus from the airport to the train station in Hörsching, where trains for Wels leave every hour.
In hourly intervals, the train takes passengers from Wels (14 minutes) to the train station in Hörsching. People in possession of a valid plane ticket can take from there the shuttle to the airport at no extra charge. Shuttles are offered as needed between 5am and 11pm. It’ll take you approximately three minutes to arrive at the terminal. Tickets must be bought at the ticket vending machine before boarding the train.

Otherwise, you can take a taxi from the airport to Wels (approx. 20 km, 20 min. and ~50€), information about taking a cab from the airport to Wels.
From Salzburg airport:
Bus no. 2 departs from Salzburg airport every 15 minutes to the train station (see www.svv-info.at). From there, trains are going every hour to Wels, the estimated travel time is one hour. Tickets for the bus are online available.
From Vienna airport:
There is a direct train connection between the airport and Wels train station every two hours (travel time~2:11h). Another option is to drive from the airport to Vienna Central Station and change trains there and take an ICE towards Frankfurt am Main with EXIT "Wels Hauptbahnhof". From Munich Airport:
From Munich to Wels you can either choose the route via Salzburg, or via Passau, travel time for both routes is approx. 4 hours.
Via Passau: Take bus#635 or taxi to Freising (approx. 15 min), from there you can take a regional train to Passau, or change to a faster train in Plattling.
Via Salzburg: Take the urban train S1 or S8 to Munich East or Munich Central station, from there you can take express trains to Salzburg or even Linz, where you then need to change to a train to Wels
Travel by car
… from the North (Passau, A8>A25)
At the highway junction "Knoten Wels" keep left to get onto highway A25 > Take the Exit Wels Nord and turn right onto the 4-lane street B137/Inviertlerstraße in direction of city centre > at the big junction with the main road B1/Hans-Sachs-Str. take a right in direction of Wels Centre > follow the road and keep going straight ahead crossing smaller railway tracks again and strait over the roundabout > the B1/Hans-Sachs-Straße gives way to the B1/Stelzhamerstraße > FH-Campus Wels is on your right.
… from the East (Vienna, A1>A25)
At the highway junction "Knoten Haid" follow the direction E56/Deutschland/Wels/Passau onto A25/E552 > take the Exit Marchtrenk-West/Zentrum/Wels-Ost > at the exit keep left in direction of Wels-Ost Zentrum and follow the main road B1/Welser Str. that gives way to B1/Hans-Sachs-Straße > follow the road and keep going straight ahead crossing the railway tracks, strait over the roundabout > the B1/Hans-Sachs-Straße gives way to the B1/Stelzhamerstraße > FH-Campus Wels is on you right.
…from the South (Graz, A9>A8)
Take the Exit Wels-West in direction of Wels Zentrum/Lambach > keep right on the B1/Salzburger Str. > after passing train tracks turn right onto B1/Doktor-Koss-Straße at the next big junction and at the next opportunity turn left onto the Rablstraße > cross two intersections and turn right at the end of the street onto the Bahnhofstraße and at the next opportunity turn left onto the Stelzhamerstraße > FH-Campus is on your left.
…from the South-West (Salzburg, A1>A8)
At the highway junction "Knoten Voralpenkreuz" follow the direction Deutschland/Passau/Wels (A8) > take the Exit Wels-West in direction of Wels Zentrum/Lambach> keep right on B1/Salzburger Str. > after passing train tracks turn right onto B1/Doktor-Koss-Straße at the next big junction and at the next opportunity turn left onto the Rablstraße > cross two intersections and turn right at the end of the street onto the Bahnhofstraße and at the next opportunity turn left onto the Stelzhamerstraße > FH-Campus is on your left.
