IPM students worked on design projects at our partner university in Lahti/Finland.

Interdisciplinary design projects are a central component of the Product Concept Design specialization of the Master's degree programme "Innovation and Product Management". Already during their studies students learn to work on real design challenges. Beyond that, the IPM programme strives to provide its students with an international environment, e.g. through experiences abroad during their studies. For the students of the specialization Product Concept Design this meant a two-week project work within the scope of the Summer School 2019 at our partner university in Lahti/Finland.

The students worked on different design topics in three interdisciplinary teams: One team worked on a concept for the upcoming Lahti Art & Design Centre. The main focus here was on an interactive and participatory experience for different target groups by using digital technology. Another team developed a holistic concept of the LAMK new campus surroundings, taking into consideration the needs of different stakeholder groups. The third team worked out proposals for care of the elderly by relatives, that base on smart senior home devices. All three topics are embedded in larger research and development projects.

Since the project work was part of the Summer School in Lahti, there were also accompanying courses, for example on presentation techniques, video editing or scientific work.

And of course, in addition to the supporting program, there was also time for a trip to Helsinki. The program included a guided tour of the Design Museum and the students were given a first-hand insight into the Arabia/IIttala Design Centre.
