AMM and IPM gained valuable insights into PALFINGER AG

On Sep. 22nd 2019, more than 30 students of the international Master's degree programmes Automotive Mechatronics & Management (AMM) and Innovation & Product Management (IPM) were invited to experience the “PALFINGER World” and also to get insights into the largest plant of PALFINGER in Lengau where the students experienced the ‘birth’ of a crane!

At the beginning of this excursion, the students were able to intensively examine the history and groundbreaking innovations of the company in the PALFINGER World in Lengau. Among other things, this was made possible by a 3D cinema in which more than 33 million pixels were projected onto both the wall and the floor. In very elaborately designed films, students were able to see individual Palfinger products, such as heavy-duty cranes or lifeboats, in real field use. A first impression of the controllability of individual Palfinger products was given in a model station on a scale of 1:14. Different crane superstructures could be controlled by original Palfinger remote controls.

As part of the tour through the production halls of the Lengau plant AMM and IPM students got insight into all stages of production and assembly of a crane within the range of 12 to 78 MT. During the subsequent tour, the students were informed in particular about aspects of production planning and control as well as internal logistics, such as the Kanban-controlled supply of small parts or the internal route trains.

After more than three highly informative and interesting hours, Palfinger invited the "delegation" from Wels to a wonderful lunch in a nearby restaurant. “This excursion, perfectly organized by Palfinger, gave us valuable insights into the production processes of a world market leader. It is very valuable for a university to have company partners like Palfinger. On behalf of all AMM and IPM students, I would like to thank Palfinger and especially Mrs. Hannelore Neuhofer for this day and the hospitality”, AMM head of studies, Dr. Kurt Gaubinger sums up this day.
