Wels students attend Summer School in Seoul

The 26 year old Innovation and Product Management (IPM) student Christian Pecksteiner and the 29 year old Mechatronics/Business Economics (MeWi) student Daniel Mair are currently attending a Summer School at the Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul. The theme of the summer school this year is ‘Sustainable Global Values: Convergence, Divergence and Collaboration’ and it aims at strengthening international cooperation and cultural exchange.

Mr. Pecksteiner has already been to Korea in 2010 and was impressed then by the country, people and food. He has also been connected with Korea for years in a sporting sense: he practises Hapkido – a Korean martial art.

At the Summer School the IPM student is taking the courses ‚Ethics, Innovation and Entrepreneurship‘ and ‚Technological Innovation and Business Strategy‘

Mr. Pecksteiner, who comes from Wels, reports: ‘The most important and valuable aspect of this summer school is the opportunity to meet students from all over the world and share experiences with them. Getting to know different cultures and mentalities seems to be a never-ending process. Above all the students from Asia (South Korea, Singapore, Malasia, China, Indonesia) made this experience most rewarding since the differences between West and East are the greatest. I wouldn’t miss the time here and the newly-made friends and acquaintances for anything!’ He was also fascinated by the excellent teaching of his professor Dr. Raymond Ferris Abelin of the renowned Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Alongside the main courses a ‚Global Forum‘ was also held to promote international cooperation. Topics and opinions related to this years theme ‘Sustainable Global Values’ were identified and presented. Christian Pecksteiner achieved a very creditable second place with his group in this competition and was invited on a special overnight trip inland where he was able to learn even more about Korean culture.

Altogether 1200 students from all over the world are attending the ISS which is being held for the fifth time. The regularly organised trips to learn about the culture and people are also very popular with the participants.
