1995 - What a year!

Remarkable, what has been created in only 25 years in the Wehrgraben in Steyr. A university location that brings students from all over the world to Upper Austria. A research hotspot that is sought after as a partner far beyond Austria's borders. A management training centre for business graduates who make Austrian companies fit for the future. A place before geniuses when it comes to digitisation.

Foundation and history of the FH OÖ Campus Steyr

The Steyr campus of the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences is located in the halls and buildings of the former Hack company in Steyr Wehrgraben. Until the 1980s the cutlery producer (Steyrer Werke, Hack-Werke) was successfully operating in the Wehrgraben. Picture: Steyrer Wehrgraben 100 years ago

In October 1995, the first FH degree programme in Production and Management started in Steyr with 48 students. Small and fine was the first team in the founding year. From left to right: Heimo Losbichler, Fritz Milcke, Martina Neuhauser, Herbert Jodlbauer.
The first students were accommodated in the Steyrer Vereinsdrucker (Ennsthaler) and the Museum Arbeitswelt. In 1997 the roof was levelled and in August 1998 the university moved to its new premises (the former Hack-Werke and now FH I). There were 2 large and 3 small lecture halls with a few seminar and computer rooms.
The pioneers! A FH diploma course lasted four years. In 1999, the first graduates* of the Production and Management programme celebrated their graduation as Dipl.-Ing. (FH).
Further courses of study followed: 2001: Process Management and Health now: Process Management and Business Intelligence 2002: e-Business now: Marketing and Electronic Business 2003: International technical sales management now: Global Sales and Marketing 2007: Controlling, Accounting and Financial Management 2011: Digital Business Management, Austria's first Joint Master (FH Upper Austria and JKU) 2018: Digital transport and logistics management
The devastating flood in August 2002 caused damage to the University of Applied Sciences to the tune of 2 million euros. In an unprecedented clean-up and restoration campaign, the building was drained and repaired in the following weeks, so that the university could resume its operations on 10th October 2002.
In 2004 the newly built FH II building was opened. All diploma degree were also converted according to the new Bologna system (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate).
2006: Foundation of the Logistikum Steyr
2008: Start of the first degree programme tought entirely in English (GSM) 1.000 students are already enrolled in Steyr.
2010 - 99% of the graduates have a job (annual evaluation, since then continuous top employment rate) 2016 - Foundation of the Institute for Smart Production (now: Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Production).
On 20th October 2017 the ground-breaking ceremony for the new FH Upper Austria Campus Steyr III took place.
From autumn 2019, the new FH Upper Austria Campus Steyr III will provide a total of 11.300 m2 of space for teaching and research. In the years up to 2019, about 5,000 students have graduate from one of the 12 degree programmes.
2020 - 25 years FH Upper Austria Campus Steyr + Top results in international rankings (CHE, U-Multirank, Universum) + 280 lecturers and professors + 5,500 students & 1,400 graduates + Start of the Digitisation Centre

Start of the first degree programme
