Examples of R&D projects

More than 300 current projects have been carried out at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. These cover a wide variety as illustrated by the following selection of examples.

Measuring of therapy success

At the Lebensquell Bad Zell Gesundheits- und Wellnesszentrum, a health and wellness center in Upper Austria, patients with rheumatic pain are treated with therapy in cold chambers. Researchers in the field of medical technology developed measurement methods to determine the success of these treatments. The project was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Family and Youth.

Improved supply chain for enterprises

At our research center Steyr, researchers developed in cooperation with Alois Pöttinger Maschinenfabrik Ges.m.b.H, an established company in Upper Austria, a consistent, transparent and adaptive value network from suppliers to end users. This enables Pöttinger to be more flexible and to react quickly to changing market conditions. The project is funded by the State of Upper Austria as part of the research funding initiative AGTIL. Optimization of clinical core processes

The project OBIK focuses on the development of an ontology-based benchmarking infrastructure for hospitals. Within 2 years and in cooperation with RISC Software GmbH the foundation for comparisons of ways to reduce factors such as complications or length of stay in treatment and reduce costs. The project was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Family and Youth. Improved care for elderly and sick people

Researchers of our schools in Hagenberg and Linz developed in the interdisciplinary project PIN technologies of telemonitoring and video telephony which are especially designed for elderly and sick people to improve their support system and maintain their social network . On the one hand, our researchers in Hagenberg were focused on developing the technical components. On the other hand our sociologists in Linz ensured that the developments met the requirements of the users. The developments have been implemented in the Upper Austrian region of Wels. The project was carried out in cooperation with x-tention Informationstechnologie GmbH and Spantec GmbH and was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology. Enhanced security of mobile devices

At our Josef Ressel Center "u'smile" – located at our school in Hagenberg – researchers focus on user-friendly secure mobile environments. In cooperation with partners from science and industry they will improve the security of apps and services on mobile platforms, such as smartphones and tablet PC. The Josef Ressel Center is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Family and Youth.

Non-destructive testing of nano materials

The project NanoXCT links the activities of 10 partners from 7 European countries including 5 SMEs to design, develop and implement a desktop X-ray computed tomography system for non-destructive characterization of nano materials and components.
