Top-class experts from all over the world met virtually on 14 May for the 9th Cross-Cultural Business Conference at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria in Steyr to discuss current developments in the field of interculturality and international business.

"The Cross-Cultural Business Conference, organised by our research focus "Global Business Management", has developed into a network meeting of top researchers with a focus on international business and intercultural management", emphasised Margarethe Überwimmer, host and head of the Global Sales and Marketing programme.

Around 200 guests from China, Taiwan, Turkey, Russia, Europe, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia and Uruguay attended the conference and benefited from the content of the presentations by this year's keynote speakers Franz Hubmer, HR Director of SKF Group, and Gerd Liebig, CEO of Sumitomo Demag. Franz Hubmer used his presentation to talk about the challenges of a global company when different understandings of values and value systems of international employees converge, while Gerd Liebig spoke about the experiences of changes in sales in a Japanese-German company. Other highlights included 30 specialist presentations.

Platform for international cooperation
The useful effect of such an event is, above all, the lively networking and the emergence of multi-layered international cooperation, which takes place virtually in the age of Covid-19. The exchange with the partner universities of the Global Sales and Marketing degree programme opens up opportunities to deepen international relations and cooperation.

"International and intercultural know-how is the key competence for a strongly export-oriented economy and a fixed component of the teaching and research of the Global Sales and Marketing degree programmes. With the Cross-Cultural Business Conference, we are actively contributing to international networking and offering an opportunity to present research results and discuss them with colleagues from all over the world," says Margarethe Überwimmer.
