Chinese high school students visit Austria for a summer school in Bio- and Environmental Technology
Eight Chinese students of one of the best private high schools in Beijing are currently in Austria for a 1-week Summer School at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. They are participating in courses and labs of the study programme in Bio- and Environmental Technology at the School of Engineering and Environmental Sciences in Wels. The students are learning about the topics Food & Nutrition, Genetics and oxidative cellular damage and have the opportunity to complement their the theory classes by practical experiments such as analyzing their own DNA or examining the ingredients of energy drinks. Besides, visiting the Ars Electronica Center in Linz and sightseeing Wels, Salzburg and Vienna and getting to know the Austrian culture is part of the students’ schedule for the week. The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria has been in cooperation with this Chinese high school for several years and this is the first Summer School of this kind hosted at Wels Campus. The Chinese students are excited about Austria and the facilities and lectures at the School of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, some now consider studying in Austria or Europe after graduation.
