Student of the FH Upper Austria Wins at Lightweight Construction Conference at Spielbergring

Automated Production of Lightweight Components - The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is researching a fully automated manufacturing process at Wels Campus


Experts are enthusiastic. The lightweight construction and composite materials student Florian Silber has worked on the optimisation of the bonding of carbon fibre mats as part of his bachelor thesis and was awarded a prize for this at the Austrian symposium "Carbon Composites Austria" at the Spielbergring.

Lightweight components are not only used for racing bikes or in Formula 1, but increasingly also in aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering. Composite materials, e.g. made of carbon or glass fibres, enable a considerable reduction in weight and can be made extremely resilient with the fibre orientation. At present, the production of fibre composite structures is often still done by hand. The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is researching a fully automated manufacturing process at Wels Campus.
