Wels is located approximately 20 km west of the city of Linz. The campus in Wels is one of the four campuses of the University of Applied Sciences, Upper Austria and provides  higher education in the fields of Engineering, Environmental Science and Renewable Energies Studies. With its unique combination of education, research and business, Wels Campus has established itself as a dynamic center of engineering with an international reputation.


The School of Engineering and Environmental Sciences offers a wide range of degree programmes in the field of Engineering. Strong ties to the industry, modern infrastructure and equipment as well as a dedicated teaching staff ensure a high-quality, practice-oriented education with excellent career opportunities.

The academic programmes are centred around different fields of engineering. That includes a range of genuine mechatronical programmes as well as study courses which combine engineering with business studies. A third group comprises programmes with a focus on environmental aspects.

All our programmes are designed to provide graduates with a comprehensive university education that enables them to succeed on the labour market. The contents of our programmes directly reflect the increasing demand of industry for engineers with cutting-edge as well as practiceoriented knowledge.

Student Life in Wels

The city of Wels offers a charming city-centre with splendid town houses and romantic arched courtyards. You can enjoy the pedestrian zone which has an impressive range of high-class shops and a wide variety of restaurants, pubs (including one Irish pub), coffee-houses or wine-bars.

The university has itself gained a good reputation for beer-brewing! Currently 5 different sorts of FH beer are sold in selected bars in Wels, Linz and of course in the university cafeteria on the campus.

There are clubs and night-spots for young people such as the Schlachthof (‘Slaughter-house’ but don’t let that put you off ), a pop and rock venue played by bands from all over the world, and a wide range of social, cultural and sports opportunities in Wels, Linz and the wider region.
