Entry Requirements

FOR BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Higher Secondary (School) Certificate/Intermediate (Examination) Certificate (or confirmation serving as an alternative certificate)

Group: Science / Pre-Engineering / Pre-Medical

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better (no periods of study):

With your educational background, you qualify for subject-restricted admission to a preparatory course/the assessment examination. This allows you to apply for a preparatory course in the subject area of Medicine, Natural Sciences and Technology, corresponding to the subject area specified in your secondary school-leaving certificate.

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better + 1 successfully completed academic year:

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies and related subjects.

Group: Commerce

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better (no periods of study):

With your educational background, you qualify for subject-restricted admission to a preparatory course/the assessment examination. This allows you to apply for a preparatory course in the subject area of Social Sciences and Economics corresponding to the key subject area specified in your secondary school-leaving certificate.

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better + 1 successfully completed academic year:

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies and related subjects.

Group: Humanities

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better (no periods of study):

With your educational background, you qualify for subject-restricted admission to a preparatory course/the assessment examination. This allows you to apply for a preparatory course in the subject area of Humanities, corresponding to the subject area specified in your secondary school-leaving certificate.

School-leaving qualification with 50% of the maximum score or better + 1 successfully completed academic year:

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies and related subjects.

FOR MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Successfully completed Bachelor’s degree of at least 2 years:

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies and related subjects.

Successfully completed Bachelor’s degree of at least 4 or 5 years:

With your educational background, you qualify for direct general admission. This allows you to apply directly to a German higher education institution for academic studies in any subject area.

You are required to have studied as a full-time student at a recognised higher education institution according to the given studies regulations. You are furthermore required to submit a summary of the subjects and marks for each year of study. A degree is only recognised if you submit a (provisional) final degree certificate. 

Language Requirements

Applicants from abroad prove their proficiency in the language(s) of instruction at the time of their application. Depending on the degree programme, language certificates for German (C1) or English (B2, Toefl, IELTS certificate) must be presented.

International Foundation Programme

If you don't have yet the necessary (language) skills or miss sufficient credits in mathematics/phiysics/English for selected sudy degree programmes? The FH Upper Austria offers for those applicants and an <link en study foundation-programmes international-foundation-programme>International Foundation Programme. Students will be enrolled as external students during the time of programme. This allows for obtaining visa and student residence permit.

Visa

It is your responsibility as a student to take care of visa arrangements. As soon as you receive your Letter of Acceptance, please get an appointment at the Austrian embassy in your home country. If you intend to stay for one semester only, it is sufficient to apply for a Visa D (for stays up to 6 month). Degree-seeking students apply for a Residence Permit (for stays of more than 6 months) right from the beginning. Usually embassies require you to bring additional documents such as proof of health insurance, proof of accommodation and a financial statement.
