Entry Requirements

(West African) Senior School Certificate (1989 or later)

+ at least 2 successful academic semesters at a higher education institution

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies or a related subject.

Requirement in any case: You are required to have passed a total of 5 independent general education subjects with the grade "credit", including 2 languages and 1 mathematical/natural science subject. You are required to have taken the Senior School Examination not more than two times.

If you want to study a subject that is different from Humanities, you are required to have passed a total of 5 independent general education subjects with the grade "credit", including 1 language and 1 mathematical/natural science subject.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) - Advanced Level

 + School Certificate (until approx. 1990) or General Certificate of Education (CGE) - Ordinary Level

 + at least 2 successful academic semesters at a higher education institution: *)

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies or a related subject.

*) Additionally, the following conditions apply:

1. You are required to have passed 

  • 2 subjects in the Advanced Level of the GCE and
  • 3 subjects in the Ordinary Level of the GCE or 3 subjects in the School Certificate, including English and one mathematical/natural science subject. You are required to have at least grade "6" in the subjects in the Ordinary Level of the GCE or in the School Certificate.

2. Depending on the subject you want to study, you have to meet the following conditions: 

  • for Humanities, Law and Economic Sciences: one subject in the Advanced Level of the GCE that matches to the subject you want to study
  • for Medicine and Technics: three subjects from the mathematics/natural science subjects group in the Advanced Level
  • for Natural Sciences: two subjects from the mathematics/natural science subjects group in the Advanced Level

Higher Diploma (Higher Technician Diploma / Higher National Diploma)

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area that is contained in your grade report.

Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE)

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission, if you meet the minimum requirements below. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies or a related subject. The following conditions apply in this case:

1. You are required to have passed 

  • 2 subjects in the Advanced Level of the GCE and
  • 3 subjects in the Ordinary Level of the GCE or 3 subjects in the School Certificate, including English and one mathematical/natural science subject. Your are required to have at least grade "6" in the subjects in the Ordinary Level of the GCE or in the School Certificate.

2. Depending on the subject you want to study, you have to meet the following conditions: 

  • for Humanities, Law and Economic Sciences: one subject in the Advanced Level of the GCE that matches to the subject you want to study
  • for Medicine and Technics: three subjects from the mathematics/natural science subjects group in the Advanced Level
  • for Natural Sciences: two subjects from the mathematics/natural science subjects group in the Advanced Level

Main subjects (= subjects of the NCE) that are passed with grades "A" ,"B" ,"C" or "credit", "merit", "distinction" are treated as passed Advanced-Level-examinations.

Grade report that shows the successful completion of the "100 Levels" of a Bachelor's programme

With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies or a related subject.

Degree of at least 3 years (Bachelor)

With your educational background, you qualify for direct general admission. This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in any subject area.

 

FOR MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Successfully completed at least a 3-year Bachelor’s programme (full time).

It must be a degree from a recognised University in Nigeria.

This allows you to apply directly for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies or a related subject.

The information serves as an orientation for international students, but it is not binding for the certification authorities.

Language Requirements

Applicants from abroad prove their proficiency in the language(s) of instruction at the time of their application. Depending on the degree programme, language certificates for German (C1) or English (B2, Toefl, IELTS certificate) must be presented.

International Foundation Programme

If you don't have yet the necessary (language) skills or miss sufficient credits in mathematics/phiysics/English for selected sudy degree programmes? The FH Upper Austria offers for those applicants and an <link en study foundation-programmes international-foundation-programme>International Foundation Programme. Students will be enrolled as external students during the time of programme. This allows for obtaining visa and student residence permit.

Visa

It is your responsibility as a student to take care of visa arrangements. As soon as you receive your Letter of Acceptance, please get an appointment at the Austrian embassy in your home country. If you intend to stay for one semester only, it is sufficient to apply for a Visa D (for stays up to 6 month). Degree-seeking students apply for a Residence Permit (for stays of more than 6 months) right from the beginning. Usually embassies require you to bring additional documents such as proof of health insurance, proof of accommodation and a financial statement.
