Study projects

Projects are an essential part of the curriculum of Mobile Computing. Students get the chance to directly apply the theoretical knowledge which is acquired during their studies. This is not only an innovative and exciting approach to teaching but has also been a starting point to successful startups like runtastic and Butleroy.

User Interface Complexity Analysis of Mobile Applications

The goal is to analyse the complexity of mobile applications based on user interface (UI) related information from screenshots, camera feeds etc. of a mobile application. Metrics for analysing the user interface design include colour distribution, contrast, text distribution, number of user interface elements, alignment and grouping of UI elements, consistency over multiple screens and navigation complexity.

3D Positioning with Visual Camera Input based on Inter-Frame Calculation

Positioning and Navigation is one of the key factors of the success of mobile devices. Indoor navigation however, is a broadly unsolved problem. Future devices like Google Glass or Microsoft HoloLens could use camera input to solve this problem without additional hardware intelligent systems or environments. The 3D trajectory of a camera given a video sequence is calculated and evaluated using different feature-algorithms calculation-approaches.

Emotion Recognition on Mobile Devices based on User Interactions

The goal is to find unobtrusive ways to detect users emotion on a smartphone. Therefore it is not a good way to ask the user to select his current emotion on the screen. Use the system integrated sensors and possibly additional sensors to recognise the emotion of the user.
