International Days in Social Work

A total of 110 participants honored the International Days in Social Work at the FH Upper Austria Linz Campus in June: 73 students and lectors from the field of social work from 12 countries and 37 students from the in-house master's degree programme Social Work. The largest foreign student groups came from Germany, the Netherlands, the USA and Canada.

A total of 21 lectures and workshops took place, covering a wide range of different areas of social work. The World Café was especially well received on the first day with a presentation of all universities and countries with tastings of regional delicacies.

The visitors also showed great interest in site visits such as the Center for Violence Protection, Child and Youth Services, Restart, Integration Office Linz or LENA.

The second week saw an additional programme for guests from the US and Canada - 14 students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 5 students from the Nova Scotia Community College and two lectors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Helen Bader's School of Social Welfare. There is a long-standing partnership with this university, this year the 10th anniversary of this summer school has already been celebrated. This was especially pleasing to the Dean of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, Stan Stojkovic. There were students with a focus on social work and partly criminology. Highlights during this week were visits to the Garsten Prison and the Linz Police Department, as well as visits to various social institutions such as SOS Human Rights, Streetwork and Caritas Wärmestube.
