Double e for Product Design and Technical Communication

In the past weeks, the Bachelor’s degree programme Product Design and Technical Communication has been blessed with a double e  experience. Not only has it won the eAward 2017 for a joint project with a Vienna-based software company, but it also went on an Erasmus+ teacher exchange at the University of Bologna.

Every semester, the degree programme Product Design and Technical Communication carries out interdisciplinary projects involving commercial companies or academic research teams. In this framework, it cooperated closely with door2solution software GmbH, a Vienna-based software company specialising in spare parts management solutions. The project results contributed to a novel solution for displaying interactive 3D models in web browsers, without the need to use third-party plugins. Within the eAward 2017 competition, which is one of the most prominent industrial prizes in Austria, the project was awarded a prize for the solution’s usability and e-commerce potential. In addition to the eAward 2017 prize, door2solution software GmbH has also been shortlisted for the much sought after German INNOVATIONSPREIS-IT 2017.

For the degree programme Product Design and Technical Communication, internationalisation and exchanges with other universities are only natural, given its focus on communication. This is why it initiated two Erasmus+ cooperation agreements last year, one of them signed by the venerable University of Bologna. In this framework, Georg Löckinger, Professor of technical communication, was invited to teach at the Forlì campus in late February and early March. His exchange teaching in Italy concentrated on Master students and comprised specialized topics such as post-editing of machine translation output or text comprehensibility. “It was a great opportunity to get to know the teaching culture at Forlì campus. Also, since my colleagues and I were in direct personal contact for some days, we could discuss in greater detail potential projects for the future”, Georg Löckinger said.
