Studienprojekte

In this project the TraffSim traffic simulator of the Nemo Research Group will be extended by a platooning model. Platooning is a cooperative driving model where one leader vehicle controlled by an human is followed by some automatically controlled vehicles. This will improve the road capacity and decrease fuel consumption.

Ziel

The deployment of vehicle platoons on highways and the higher road network constitutes a viable solution towards more efficient transportation. The basic principle of such platoons is rather simple: one leading vehicle is responsible for steering control, whereas the preceding vehicles simply follow that leader. There exist different solutions for implementing this follow-the-leader concept.

In this project the TraffSim Simulator, which was used in a variety of previous project in the context of traffic simulation, will be extended by a Platoon Model to simulate different scenarios for platooning. Some scenarios are for example creating, joining or leaving a platoon. After the platoon model is introduced a platoon management shall be implemented to find vehicles which are able to build a platoon with the goal to reduce fuel consumption, increase the drivers comfort and improve traffic flow. Therefor an algorithm for matching routes and current positions of the vehicles will be implemented to find possible platoons in a simulation.
