Vortrag von Lev Manovich: Visual generative media – Notes from (ongoing) AI revolution

Zum Vortrag "Visual generative media – Notes from (ongoing) AI revolution"

The current "summer" of AI generative media is unlike any other AI summer. Previously, we expected great things from AI and were disappointed when it failed to deliver. However, the truly remarkable capacity of large nets to generate complex images in a variety of styles emerged almost unexpectedly this time. In other words, AI unexpectedly delivered far more than we expected. However, despite its magic, generative media has its own strong limitations (like all other media). In my talk, I'll talk about a few aspects of visual generative media that I think are particularly important or novel. I will also discuss a few of my recent AI art projects and their connections to my work in drawing and painting from the mid-1970s to the present. Some of the ideas in the talk draw on my current book in progress Artificial Aesthetics: A critical guide to AI, Media and Design (2019-now) and my earlier book AI Aesthetics (2018).
