Examination and Assessment

All courses taken by students in a given semester are tested, mainly at the end of that semester. To complete a semester successfully, and thus qualify to go on to study in the next one, students must pass all the exams in the courses they have taken in that semester. Examinations may take various forms: written and oral tests, some assessment of coursework, work for seminars and project work (never alone) or a combination of any of these. If students fail an exam they can resit it a maximum of twice. Most students pass first or second time! In the event of an international student failing a test, arrangements may be made for a resit to be taken at their home university after returning home.

Examination period
There is no designated examination period. However, most exams are held during the last weeks of each semester (ie second half of January or June) and the first two weeks of February and July.

Types of courses
While some subjects are presented as traditional lectures, tutorials, others are taught in the form of seminars, project works, labs, blocked instruction and skills practice, or a combination of these methods.

Attendance policy
Students are expected to attend and participate fully in all lectures, seminars and projects in which they have elected to take part. The attendance may be kept at the discretion of the individual faculty members.
