Steyr - The City

Steyr, a business and cultural centre of the region of Upper Austria, is also considered to be one of the best preserved medieval cities and is surrounded by a landscape, which even the famous Austrian composer Franz Schubert described as "beautiful beyond description". For centuries now, two rivers - the Enns and the Steyr - have dominated life in this city which was first mentioned under the name "Stiraphurc" in a document dating back to 980 AD.

Steyr has been known as the "Iron town" for many centuries and this tradition has influenced Steyr right up to the present day as illustrated by the number of multi-national concerns which have been attracted to this region. No other Austrian town has such a concentration of enterprises internationally renowned, and Steyr continues to provide the potential for the expansion of existing firms and the establishment of new businesses.

Steyr, which has a population of around 42,000, is situated between the alpine foothills and the Upper Austrian central region in the province of Upper Austria about 40 kilometres from the city of Linz. www.tourism-steyr.at
