Prevention of addiction and violence
Cooperation between:
- The University 0f Education, Upper Austria
- Johannes Kepler University Linz
- Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences
- Institute for the Prevention of Addiction / pro mente Upper Austria
Scientists, practitioners and politicians have now come to the general consensus that violence and addiction prevention is most effective when carried out by a variety of professionals on a multidimensional level. This is why the University of Education, Upper Austria, the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences, the Johannes Kepler University and the Institute of Addiction Prevention/pro mente are now cooperating to offer courses of studies at different levels, beginning in summer 2009. A certificate course of study (30ECTS), a course of study at university level (60 ECTS) and a master programme (in preparation; 120 ECTS) will be offered.
The courses will be strongly practice oriented, providing a good theoretical/scientific background with an interdisciplinary approach.
The certificate course of studies enables its graduates to gain theory-based practical skills which are in line with current professional standards so they can work on addiction and violence prevention in various settings. The university course and the master programme look more specifically at these skills and subject them to scientific discourse.
Target group
Key persons from various social groups should be attracted in order to provide a cross section of professional staff who cooperate in dealing with violence and addiction prevention. The training courses are directed towards persons already employed in the education or health sectors, in the police force or the army (social workers, psychologists, nursing staff, probation staff, youth workers, etc) persons who are in related training fields or already in the field of addiction and violence prevention.
