Career Profile

Graduates work in non-profit and public service organisations as well as in profit-oriented organizations which offer social services. In these organizations they are qualified to take on responsibilities such as personnel management and development, controlling, organization and organizational development, resource management, project management, contract management, and social planning. Relevant experience and personal aptitude enable them to carry out management tasks at various levels, take responsibility as leaders of teams, run small to medium-sized units in organizations, and assist senior management. External consulting services are also becoming increasingly important in the social sector.

The course provides a good knowledge of the economic, legal and social factors affecting social services, as well as a basic knowledge of the needs of the many target groups using social services; for example, elderly people, people with disabilities, people who need psychosocial support, those who need vocational qualifications, and also families, children, and young people. Graduates are qualified to use resources effectively and efficiently according to the specific requirements of the social services. They are also able to deal competently with staff, contractors, customers and clients, and to reflect on the ethical and anthropological issues implicit in their work.

To enable the students to work part time, the courses are generally held in blocks from Thursday 14.00 to Saturday 13.00.

Focus

In the third year you will have the opportunity to choose between two specialization modules.

If you are more interested in the ‘hard skills’ of social and health organizations, you can improve your knowledge and gain additional competencein dealing with financial resources by taking the Controlling and Finance Module.

If you are more interested in the ‘soft skills’ of social and health organizations, you can gain further skills and knowledge by opting for the Human Resources and Organization module.
