As soon as you have decided to study abroad, you should contact both your international coordinator and the director of the degree programme. The International Office will provide you with up-to-date information about the current partner universities and application formalities. Once you have been nominated as an exchange student for the partner university of your choice, all application documents must be completed (they can be found at the website of the respective university) which are then sent to the partner university by the International Office. After that you will have to submit an application for an Erasmus grant to the International Office.

As application deadlines vary from university to university, you should inform the International Office about your plans by the end of the fall semester if you intend to study abroad the following fall semester, and by the end of the spring semester if you want to study abroad in the following spring semester.

In many European countries it is possible to attend a preparative language course at the host university and receive an additional ERASMUS installment (up to 1 month aditionally). You can find more information about the EILC courses, application procedures and deadlines at the EILC website of the European Commission or at the website of the DAAD (in German).

If you are planning to study in a country in which a language is spoken that is not widely spread, you can attend an Erasmus Intensive Language Courses (EILC). 

To apply for the EILC you have to (electronically) fill out the EILC application form and send it via e-mail to the International Office. 

Please note that the application deadline is:

• 19/5 (for EILC before winter semester)
• 21/10 (for EILC before summer semester)

An EILC can take between 2 and 6 weeks and is free of cost.

EILC courses take place in the following countries:

Belgium (Flemish Community), Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey.
