Electrical Engineering: Powering YOUR future! Bachelor

One of the leading trends today is the change to an environmentally friendly electrical power supply. This degree programme focuses on the design, operation and production of equipment for modern electrical power supply, electrical power distribution and transport, and energy conversion. This includes components for smart grids, the use of renewable energies and electric cars. The aim of the Electrical Engineering course is to provide graduates with the skills and know-how to meet the requirements of international electrical power engineering in the future. Our program is very practice-oriented and includes an internship, excursions to reputable companies, as well as the possibility of an exchange semester with one of our international partner universities.

Key Facts

The future tasks of our graduates include the development, production, maintenance, operation and technical support of equipment for electrical energy systems as well as technical consulting. They will also find themselves in the planning and discovery of new and modern energy supply concepts and technologies (such as electric cars).

I chose FH-OÖ Wels, because I not only wanted to attend an institution that is recognized only because of its high level education, but one, that gives the students the possibility to express and practice their passion and love for what they are studying, and I found my place. Schmuck Bence

Applying knowledge

Our students spend approximately 50% of their teaching time in laboratories and practical exercises, preparing them for the practice-oriented application of the theoretical knowledge they have acquired. In addition, close cooperation with local industry enables our students to gain hands-on experience as part of their project work and the mandatory internship. Students are also invited to participate in the R&D activities of the University of Applied Sciences in the form of student projects or as research assistants. Electrical storage systems, PV systems, e-mobility, power electronics, high-voltage and high-current technology, switchgear and lightning protection are some examples of the areas of particular interest.

I'm extremely proud to be a part of this program. I'm surrounded by fellow students and faculty that are not only passionate about electrical engineering and applied science: we're all drive to apply our education to make the world a better place! Reily Janson

Frequently asked questions

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the degree programme.

Situated in the heart of Europe, Austria offers great variety concentrated in a small area. Austria offers you a broad spectrum of educational opportunities – not to mention great social security, economic stability and the great hospitality of the Austrians. This is why Austria is an ideal place for studying and living! Take a look.

Please note that we have a very strict policy for English proficiency proof. Unless you are American, British or Australian we require a English language certificate.  We do not accept letters from previous schools or universities stating that your high school or undergraduate programme was completed in English.

Applicants are required to submit the following: TOEFL IbT  minimum score of 78 points or academic IELTS - min overall score of 6.0.  No exceptions!

We only offer a merit based performance scholarships for international students as of the 2nd semester. These scholarships award students with a 1x contribution of 1 semester tuition fees. Further information on other international scholarships (these are though scholarships that are not offered by the FH, therefore we can not assist with application etc.) can be found here

Please note that we very seldomly accept transfer students into higher semesters due to the technical and practical nature of our degree programme, with the first year being the most essential given that the courses are designed to build on each other, so it is absolutely important to have a solid knowledge base. Unfortunately not many universities offer such a practical focused approach, and most likely do not cover the same courses as our curriculum.

You will be required to apply via our application portal and include your transcripts from your current studies, module descriptions as well as detailed curriculum of the degree which you are currently studying. Our head of studies will then review these to access if a transfer is possible. You will most likely have to repeat some courses, other courses may be credited.
