First Summer School in Linz: UAUAS and UWM Helen Bader School of Social Welfare

From July 5 until July 19 Linz Campus International Office hosted 11 students of Social Work and Criminal Justice and accompanying professors from our partner University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dean Stan Stojkovic and Professors Susan J. Rose, Jeanne Wagner (director of field placements), and David Pate and their students attended lectures, workshops and site visits which focussed on social policy in Austria, integration and asylum, police work and prisons, youth and family, family counselling, substance abuse and domestic violence.

Our guests also enjoyed visiting Linz landmarks such as Pöstlingberg and the castle, and took a short cruise on the Danube. After a visit to Erstaufnahmestelle West in St. Georgen, they experienced the beauty of Salzkammergut with a stop in Mondsee followed by a trip around the lakes and over the mountains to Gmunden.

We would like to thank Dean Martin Zauner, Dr. Marianne Gumpinger, Head of Social Work and all of the many generous employees of national, state and city organizations and social services agencies who received us and shared their knowledge and experience.
