Kurzbeschreibung
The electronic data processing centre (EDPC) of the Vienna city council (MA 14) provides with one of the largest computer networks in Europe the technical basis for 35,000 servants. Partly existing business continuity/resumption plans had to be revised and rephrased because of massive structural changes concerning the EDPC (e.g. Server-Housing). The aim of the project is to help revising and creating business continuity/resumption plans as parts of an emergency manual for the EDPC of the Vienna city council.

Ausgangssituation / Motivation / Einleitung
The MA 14, provider of the technical basis for 35,000 servants, has decided to create an emergency manual based on the BSI-Standard 100-4. Therefore chapters of the standard and partly existing business continuity/resumption plans had to be rephrased and revised. In terms of the course of studies and interests the decision was made to collaborate with the MA 14. The opportunity of gaining insight in a network of this magnitude is rarely given. Therefore more about design and the way the network is handled was of great interest.
Projektziel
The aim of the project was to help revising and creating business continuity/resumption plans as parts of an emergency manual for the EDPC of the Vienna city council. Furthermore the business resumption plans for the network components had to be created.
Umsetzung
At the beginning of the project some basic aspects regarding the project s curse were checked. Getting an impression of the MA 14 and the selection of a sub-area of interest for the collaboration were the first steps. In terms of the studies, the sub-areas infrastructure and network out of twelve possible sub-areas were chosen. The personnel in charge of the respective sub-areas were urged to inform about their scopes of responsibility. After achieving the information which was needed for generating the required documents, they were forwaded to the MA 14. Because of the BSI-convention it took long until feedback was given. It was wished to augment the content of the document. Because no information was given and the employee responsible was away on leave it had to be waited again. Consequently the editing of the documents had to wait, too.
Ergebnisse / laufende Aktivitäten
Unfortunately, some of the milestones could not be met due to lacking feedback of the employer. The core milestones, which included the deliverance of the documents on whose creation was agreed upon, were met.
