Kurzbeschreibung

IPP aims to identify fundamental software protection mechanisms that will enable developers to produce tamper proof applications.Especially in recently industrialised countries the patent system isn t as developed as in others therefore to ensure the safety of new products different means must be explored. To that end this study will analyse known safeguard concepts and compare them against each other.

DETAILS

Ausgangssituation / Motivation / Einleitung

These days software developers have to fight many threats against their applications. Hackers attempt to modify code, to bypass copy protection or to steal parts of the original software like important and complex algorithms.

Projektziel

This study aims to identify and evaluate protection methods that are applicable for software developers to defend their products from unauthorized Reverse Engineering. Possible methods of defending binary code from 3rd party analyzing are Obfuscation, Encryption, Encoding or Morphing.

Umsetzung

At the beginning of the project we were researching ways to protect software. After this task was accomplished we tried to find applications which implement these methods. Having found enough software we used them to do a separat analyzis for each of them. Gathering the results and writing everything down was the final task of the project.

Ergebnisse / laufende Aktivitäten

The project team found, that a single protection mechanism can not completly protect software. It is recommended to use different methods at once and change key components from time to time.
